Why nearshore

Same time zone as Munich. Same working day.

Velbit builds in Veles, North Macedonia — in Europe, on Central European Time, and duty-free into the EU. Your nine o'clock question reaches the engineer running your job at nine o'clock.

What proximity buys

Three things that do not show up on a unit price

Days, not weeks

Boards go to Munich, Vienna or Milan by road in sample 2–4 days. No sea freight, no six-week clock on a revision.

Engineers who answer

We run on CET — the same clock as Berlin, Vienna and Milan. Questions are answered the same working day, in English.

European standards, Balkan cost

European workmanship at a labour cost Western EMS cannot match. The honest middle between Chinese pricing and German invoices.

Velbit supplies the origin paperwork with every shipment. North Macedonia is in Europe but outside the EU customs union, so goods do clear customs — we handle the declaration, and there is no duty to pay on qualifying goods. confirm

The honest comparison with China

On a handful of simple prototype boards, the big Chinese shops are cheaper than us and we are not going to pretend otherwise. If you need five two-layer boards with common parts and you are not in a hurry, order them there.

What changes as the job gets bigger or more complicated: freight stops being negligible, a revision costs weeks instead of days, communication happens across a twelve-hour gap, and the total landed cost picks up import VAT to pre-finance, broker fees and the occasional silent component substitution.

Our read is that the crossover sits somewhere around sample 500–1,000 units for a typical industrial board, earlier if the design is still moving or the BOM has parts that need judgement. Below that, price wins. Above it, the things proximity buys start to matter more than the unit price.

If your job is on the wrong side of that line, we will say so in the quote rather than take the order and disappoint you.

Versus Western Europe

The other comparison

Same continent, lower labour

A German or Austrian EMS carries a labour cost we do not. For labour-heavy low-volume work that difference is most of the price.

Same access

Duty-free into the EU, road freight in days, invoices in euros, and the same working hours.

Fewer layers

You talk to the engineer running the job, not to an account manager who talks to a planner who talks to the line.

Practical questions

Is North Macedonia in the EU?

No — it is in Europe and an EU candidate, but outside the union and its customs territory. Goods clear customs on the way in, duty-free under the trade agreement, and we supply the origin paperwork.

Who pays import VAT?

The importer accounts for it as with any intra-European B2B purchase. It is reclaimable in the normal way; it is a cash-flow item, not a cost.

How long does freight actually take?

sample 2–4 days by road to most of the EU, including clearance. confirm

Can we visit the plant?

Yes, and customers do. Skopje has direct flights from most European hubs and the plant is an hour away in Veles.

What currency do you invoice in?

Euros for European customers, US dollars elsewhere. Prices are shown in both.

Two hours' flight. One working day for a quote.
